About Parbatya Bouddha Mission (PBM)
Goals
Vision
PBM envisions a policy of development for the region and its people
which pursues a “holistic” approach in which the people
and their surrounding environment are able to prosper in a sustainable
manner.
PBM also envisions a community of people who are independent of
foreign and national aid and lead self-sustaining lives with employment
and education opportunities and health and food security.
Mission
PBM’s mission can be reduced to three inter-related principles:
(a) unify and empower people towards self-reliance in the hilly
areas (b) alleviate the causes of poverty by providing education,
job training and job opportunities (c) rehabilitate the impoverished
through the provision of affordable and accessible healthcare and
housing.
Objectives
The objectives of PBM are to uplift the social and economic conditions
of the people with the greatest needs in the hilly areas, especially
women and children, through community organization, education,
training, economic activities, activities on crucial social issues,
sanitation activities and healthcare. More specific objectives
are as follows:
- Raise social awareness by helping poor people learn about options
for pursuing their own objectives
- Increase the level of interest in improving self-sufficiency
and involvement in the development process
- Mobilize and organize the disadvantaged and marginalized, targeting
women and children
- Increase efficiency and behavioral change by providing human
and skills development training
- Help ensure widespread participation in all development activities
and processes by increasing literacy
- Alleviate poverty by creating a generation of self-employed
people through credit support programs
- Teach non-formal education to children who are unsuccessful
in or drop-out of school
- Develop connections with the Government and national and international
development agencies for wider support and co-operation
- Ensure environmental protection and ecological balance by undertaking
related projects in sustainable agriculture and environmental
programs
- Improve health and sanitation conditions by providing software
and hardware support to the disadvantaged
- Preserve and increase the knowledge of human rights, especially
of women and children, through programs and workshops
- Undertake programs to increase the involvement of the poor
communities in the local and national decision making processes
towards the realization of participatory democracy
