Parbatya Bouddha Mission Residential High School
Introduction
PBM’s Residential School provides educational facilities
to its resident children as well as needy children who live in
the surrounding areas who would not be able to attend school under
normal circumstances due to financial restraints. The school has
had many successes since its start in 1994. Over 250 children have
graduated this year and 30 are sitting for their exam to continue
on to higher education. Graduates (Secondary School Certificate – SSC)
of PBM are generally successful and have a high occurrence of helping
out the indigenous community in its struggle for equality and development.
The school has added programs such as a vocational training option,
has improved the quality of teachers, and has increased the amount
of time the children spend studying. The Directorate of Higher
Education of the Government of Bangladesh has approved the PBM
Residential School and at present it teaches grades V to X. The
school employs 10 teachers, both male and female, who receive 80%
of their salary from the Government
and 20% from PBM’s income generating activities. Unfortunately,
the school building, furniture and other utensils are not adequate,
and a lack of funds prevents PBM from obtaining what the children
need.
